USD 284 has updated its website (www.usd284.org). It is a work in progress, but you'll be able to find the breakfast/lunch menus under Dining. You will also find the school calendar under Events (I'm adding more months daily). The Live Feed and/or Athletics will provide updates on sports. The Live Feed will also allow us to send out other school updates.
The new website has a big picture of the high school kids at a football game last year. If you don't see that picture, you are connecting with the old site due to caching and browser history.

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff Members,
I know many of you are wondering what the Executive Orders mean for Chase County and what our plan for reopening schools will look like.
Executive Orders:
20-58 Delay the Start of School: The state Board of Education did not approve this Executive Order. It is up to the local school districts to determine the date school will start. We are having a Special Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 29 to discuss this and other issues.
20-59 Masks, Temperature Checks, Washing Hands, and Physical Distancing: We are working to learn more about the legalities and requirements of this Executive Order. As you know from the news, there are conflicting reports if local counties can override the order.
Reopening Plan:
The Reopening Plan will be released by the end of the month. Our plan allows for a number of scenarios based on the amount of community spread. These scenarios range from face-to-face instruction to Chase County’s version of remote learning which will be different from what we did in the spring. Students will be held accountable for learning. Also in the plan is “full-time remote learning” for parents and students who feel uncomfortable returning to the school setting for face-to-face instruction due to medical issues or safety concerns. This full-time remote learning experience will require daily teacher and student check-in, daily attendance requirements, completing class assignments, and parent involvement. We will be sending out a questionnaire about this as our plan is released.
A group of staff members have been working to formulate the reopening plan. We know that a student learns best in a face-to-face environment with instruction from a teacher. We are committed to finding a way for this to happen in a safe manner, for all of our students.

On Thursday, a group of teachers, administrators, the technology director, the school nurse and others will be attending a Zoom meeting about working with this document and moving forward with the USD 284 plan. I appreciate your patience in allowing us to work with this document and to plan for the upcoming year. We are looking at every aspect of school and working toward a cohesive plan with the education of students and the safety of students and staff utmost on our minds. Additionally, we also working with number of educational scenarios. Again, thank you for your support and patience.

On Wednesday, July 8, the football team traveled to 5-on-5 football in Waverly. We have since learned that a Waverly player had been exposed to COVID-19 and is quarantining. At this point, our players need to remember to social distance, practice good hygiene and make good decisions. They do not need to be tested. If anything changes, we will be calling parents.
After talking to the Chase County Health Official Carol Courier, we will be suspending all summer activities and workouts for July 13-16.
Thank you.
