In a small town, Future Business Leaders of America members hosted a pancake feed that made over $800 in just three hours, having the students help with money, drinks and the pancakes as well. The Saturday morning event held on the corner by the courthouse was the site of classic car drive-in and the pancake feed.
Senior Paden Jahnke believes that they will be doing the pancake feed in the future as FBLA has grown quickly. Jahnke, president of FBLA, is glad that all of the responsibilities were evenly distributed to every member.
“There certainly were a handful of people who put in more than most, and I am thankful for that,” Jahnke said.
Senior Cooper Schroer was the one who came up with the idea for starting this event last year. He had to call around to quite a few different places to be able to find a good location for the event. Almost everyone in the FBLA helped with the fundraiser. Schroer was in charge of making pancakes on Oct.8.
“We did have a minor problem with getting the propane set up in the griddles and adjusting the heat just right to cook the pancakes and sausage,” Schroer said.
Senior Taylor Palenske, who has helped both years, was making the drinks, ran into an electrical problem and had to find a new place to make coffee.
“I arrived early both years to help with the setup and worked the juice station with Mitch during the pancake feed. Afterwards, I stayed late and helped with the cleanup as well,” Palenske said.
The group also hosted a classic cars drive-in, which allowed the participants to be entered into a raffle. They had about 12 classic cars parked around the north side of the courthouse.. The prize was a $50 gift card and a magnet cup holder, and the winner was community member Seth Schroer.
